Paid cloud storage , April 2024 review

Overview

Paid cloud storage plans ranked by feature on each tab, table with all features at the end for side-to-side comparison.

1.-Sync Personal & Sync Business - 500 GB at $49 (USD) a year or 2 TB at $96 (USD) a year, also 2 TB at $120 (USD) a year or 4 TB at $192 (USD) a year *
One of the best per TB price in the market and to boot with no bandwidth limitations *. Personal accounts containing 500 GB at $49 (USD) a year equate to $8.16 (USD) per month per TB, while 2 TB at $96 (USD) a year equate to $4 (USD) per month per TB. Business accounts with 2 TB at $120 (USD) a year equate to $5 (USD) per month per TB, while 4 TB at $192 (USD) a year equates to $4 (USD) per month per TB. For value it's No.1, but because it only accepts yearly payments, there are other worthy No.1's

1.-Microsoft OneDrive Basic or Office 365 - 50 GB at $1.99 (USD) a month or 1 TB at $6.99 a month including Office 365*.
The 1 TB at $6.99 (USD) is an unbeatable bargain considering the average cost among cloud providers for 1 TB of storage is $10 (USD) a month, making it a worthy No. 1. In this case you'll not only get 1 TB of storage at a below-average price, you'll also get Office 365. You can't go wrong if you're an Office user (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote) with this choice. But beware the 50 GB at $1.99 (USD) upgrade is a very bad value since it equates to $39.8 (USD) a month for 1 TB, making it one of the highest TB storage prices in the market.

1.-PCloud Basic - 500 GB at $4.99 (USD) a month, 2 TB at $9.99 (USD) a month or 5 TB at $49.95 (USD)*.
A formidable value for personal accounts with 500 GB at $4.99 (USD) a month equating to $9.98 (USD) per month per TB and 2 TB at $9.99 (USD) equating to an unbeatable $4.99 (USD) per month per TB. Business accounts come to the market average of $9.99 per month per TB. Even though PCloud also offers yearly payments nearly identical in price to Sync's yearly plans, it doesn't come out on top because PCloud limits download link traffic even for paid plans *. So a worthy No.1 for one of the lowest per TB price on a monthly/year basis, but it has other No.1 competition because it limits download bandwidth.

4.-Apple iCloud - 50 GB at $0.99 (USD), 200 GB at $2.99 (USD), 2 TB at $9.99 (USD) *.
Relatively expensive low-end paid plans with 50 GB at $0.99 (USD) equating to $19.80 (USD) per month per TB & 200 GB at $2.99 (USD) equating to $14.95 (USD) per month per TB. But Apple's 2 TB plan is well above the market average at $9.99 (USD) a month, which equates to $4.99 per month per TB. A very compelling choice and a great reason to not even look for alternatives if you're an Apple device owner.

5.-Google Drive - 100 GB at $1.99 (USD) a month, 1 TB at $9.99 (USD) a month, 10 TB at $99.99 (USD) a month, 20 TB at $199.99 (USD) a month, 30 TB at $299.99 (USD) a month*.
Average market rate of $9.99 (USD) per month per TB across all plans. Although the 100 GB at $1.99 (USD) upgrade is on the high-side since it equates to $19.99 (USD) for 1 TB. Scores higher than the competition because storage can also be used for Gmail and Google Photos.

6.-Amazon Drive - 100 GB at $11.99 (USD) per year, 1 TB at $59.99 (USD) per year up to 30 TB *.
On a price per storage unit basis, Amazon Drive should be a top three contender, but its fuzzy and 'unlimited' Terms of Service (TOS) clauses pull it down. If you're willing to find out what can be construed as 'normal use' only to save a few dollars and possibly have your account closed go for it, otherwise got with a provider with much clearer TOS.

7.-Dropbox Professional or Business - 1 TB for $9.99 (USD) a month or 5 TB for $75 (USD) a month *.
From a free plan you must either jump to 1 TB and/or 5 TB, there's nothing in between. Although 1 TB at $9.99 (USD) per month is average and bandwidth is increased to 200 GB a day with this upgrade, Dropbox is weaker than the competition because of the large upsell to 1 TB and after that you must make the jump to a Dropbox Business account with 5 TB at $75 (USD) a month.

8.-Mega Lite, Mega Pro I,II or III - 200 GB at $4.99 (Euros), 500 GB at $9.99 (Euros), 2 TB at $19.99 (Euros) and 4 TB at $29.99 (Euros) *
The TB price starts badly since 200 GB at $4.99 (Euros) equates to $24.95 (Euros) per TB and 500 GB at $9.99 (Euros) equates to $19.98 (Euros) per TB, making it 2.5 and 2 times more expensive than the average TB (based on a 1.06 Euro/Dollar exchange rate). And even though the higher end plans lower the average TB to $9.99 (Euros) and $7.49 (Euros), these prices aren't the lowest per TB on the market. But what really makes Mega fall in position is that even its paid plans are severely limited in bandwidth, the 200 GB storage plan grants 1 TB of bandwidth, the 500 GB storage plan grants 2 TB of bandwidth, the 2 TB storage plan grants 4 TB of bandwidth and the 4 TB storage plan grants 8 TB of bandwidth, all of which are weak bandwidth quotas compared to other payed plans.

9.-Box Individual - 100 GB at $11.50 (USD), 100 GB at $18 (USD) *
The most expensive per TB cost among providers by a wide margin. Personal accounts get 100 GB at $11.50 which equates to a whopping $115 (USD) per TB, while a Business starter accounts starts with 100 GB at $18 (USD) also equating to a jaw-dropping $180 (USD) per TB. On top of the stratospheric price per TB, files are also limited to a maximum 5 GB *. If you have money to burn this is a good choice.
