PCloud cloud storage , April 2024 review

PCloud was founded in 2013 [1] making it a relative newcomer to the file cloud storage market. PCloud is based in Switzerland making it one of the many file cloud storage companies operating outside U.S jurisdiction.

PCloud states it has over 6 million users [*]. PCloud offers a variety of personal cloud storage plans, including a free plan and paid plans for $4.99 (USD) and $9.99 (USD) a month, as well a business plan for $49.95 (USD) a month.

PCloud offers three different storage tiers each corresponding to their three different types of accounts: Basic (free), Pro and Business.

  • Basic (free).- 10 Giga Bytes (GB). More space available by inviting friends (e.g. 1 GB per friend) and an additional space is awarded after performing other actions (e.g. Completing profile, subscribe to newsletter, connect FB account) [*]. Maximum free space capped to 20 GB, after which you must upgrade to Personal or Business account *.
  • Personal.- 500 GB or 2 Tera Bytes (TB). Requires upgrading to Business to get more space.
  • Business.- 5 TB which includes 5 user minimum. Requires adding more Business licenses to get more space.

The 10 GB storage for a pCloud Basic (free) account is a fair amount considering other free plans from the competition (e.g. Dropbox offers a 2 GB free plan & Mega offers a 50 GB free plan). You can also get additional free storage with a pCloud Starter account at a generous rate, for each friend you invite you can get an additional 1 GB (compared to Dropbox which gives you 500 MB per friend). Storage for a pCloud Basic (free) though is capped to 20 GB.

pCloud paid storage capacity is priced in the $4.99 (USD) and $9.98 (USD) per month per TB for personal accounts and $9.99 per user per month per TB for business accounts. This makes PCloud low end range one of the most competitive in terms of price per unit of raw storage, while the high end range is just average.
